When it comes to auto events in Iowa, Id say we are known for our love of the classic auto more than the modern import or muscle car. Typical meets are accompanied by stereotypical jean shorts, tall white socks, tucked in tee, and the typical sock hop music. Recently there has been up rising in my area that is centered around the no fucks given greaser era. Retro Rewind is the kick off to the big three vintage car gatherings in the Midwest, the other two being Torque Fest and Iron Invasion, and when you go to one of these events it feels like you stepped right back in to the 50s or early 60s. These themed events make you wish gas was cheap, drive thru fat burgers were everywhere, and no one even had an idea of what a cell phone was. You met up with friends, went to the local hang out, and talked in real life, not over Facebook messenger. Thoughts of American Graffiti and Dazed and Confused often enter my mind when I get to go to one of these events, and it makes you miss the “simpler” times. Anyways, I am more of a photographer than a writer, so here are shots from the show.
