A US Marine Corps YAV-8B Harrier undergoes ski-jump testing in July 1979. This aircraft (tail number 158394) was the first of two YAV-8B Harrier prototypes and took its maiden flight on November 9, 1978. Both prototypes were converted from existing AV-8A airframes (the AV-8A was the American version of the original British Harrier). The second prototype (158395) was lost in a crash on November 15, 1979, but the pilot ejected safely.
