Last winter I picked up some snow tires to fit on to the OEM wheels of our Forester and this year I was shopping around for some steel wheels to fit those tires (because the price at the dealer was insane). I called a local shop, ordered the wheels, got home and looked at the invoice to discover the width of the steel wheel is 6.5" instead of the OEM 7".

I called the shop back and they said that the OEM sized winter tires would fit fine on the 6.5" wheel and there’s no point in paying the extra money for the extra 0.5" width. Has anyone here ever dealt with winter wheel widths before? Will my tires fit the new steel wheels?
