My VW RealDriver Platinum Extended Warranty runs out in just two weeks, at which point the Phaeton is (gasp!) unprotected. Without a warranty, things like transmission failure cost $7,000, and a whopping $16,000 for an air suspension failure.

Renewing the warranty isn't cheap. I haven't shopped around yet, but from what I've heard from others, I can expect to pay anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the length of coverage I choose. That's a huge amount of money to me right now. I just moved into a new house (higher living expenses), and I've already dropped $7,000 on car maintenance/repairs so far this year that weren't covered by warranty.

So, things look kind of grim. I can bite the bullet and drop serious cash on a warranty that may or may not help me when I actually need it, or I can venture into out-of-warranty territory and pray that nothing goes wrong. If anything happens to the transmission or suspension though, that's it. Game over.

I don't know what to do. :(
