I had a co-worker ask me to come out to the August 06th Straight Pipe time attack event. It was quite a bit of fun! The event seemed pretty well organize, those running the event did their best to separate classes by driver skill level and vehicle capabilities. Usually they were pretty close, and when they got it wrong they adjusted the classes on the fly. Everybody got plenty of track time and safety was paramount. I was just there to take some snap shots and practice my panning. Hopefully I'll be able to get out and do some time attack runs in the future, it looked like a blast!!
This was my favorite car from the event. Why? Well, because race car. I'll have to track the drive down and ask him about the car.
Of course there were some S2000's there as well. I still say this car has one of the best manual transmissions of all time.
There were cars of all types. I believe I saw an RX-7 and an RX-8 there with V8 swaps in them (not pictured unfortunately). There was this Evo with all kinds of work done to it. Plus decals, lots of decals.
Overall, having a local event like this that was more than happy to have a hobbyist photographer out there to chat with the racers and just bum around the track and take shots really got me excited to participate in future events! It was pretty chill, didn't catch much gruff or attitude, and people seemed genuinely interested in just trying to put down their best lap time.
I think it's time to pick up a helmet and start racing!
