Did anyone else have this book as a kid?
Just about finished with Erik Larson’s Dead Wake, an account of the sinking of the RMS Lusitania by the German submarine U-20 in May of 1915. Highly recommend if you like maritime history.
some light reading for Miss Mercedes.
For my Children’s Literature class:
How did everyone’s Christmas go? Mine was excellent. Santa hooked me up with a new pair of skates and an awesome book. It has some excellent pictures and a ton of interesting stories and info in it. I haven’t really started reading it, but have flipped through it a few times and read some of the anecdotes. It may not…
For Christmas, my wife and I have agreed to getting each other just four things:
I got this copy of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen from my local library's annual book sale.
Henry Felsen wrote several great stories of pulp fiction using the car. A long time ago in a basement far far away I read a copy of Hot Rod from my father's book shelf. I don't remember much except it being about 50's teenagers scrounging for cheap parts to race with and that it was terribly excellent.
First a few good classic works of fiction that should be here tomorrow, and now I'm snooping out my next batch of technical reading. It's all Amazon Prime's fault, I tell ya! So what does Oppo read(technical or otherwise)?
Don't remember who on here recommended them to me, but they were both great reads! Based on reviews people like Illium better than Olympos, but I may just be the other way around. Anyone else read these? Do you happen to be the one to recommend them to me roughly a year ago? Let me know! Haha.
As both a car-nut and former Literature major that spends way too much time thinking about silly things, I often wondered what vehicles would best fit some famous authors. Would Shakespeare's pension for Italian tragedies have him pilot a Ferrari? Would Dickens' rock-star status in Victorian England mean he would be…
Growing up wrenching on rusted out hulks of forgotten German/Italian/French steel, playing in a band, trying to be a good student in high school and college and dealing with all of my personal life issues certainly had something to do with the skill set I possess, and my station in life, but never moved the needle…
I just got back from my roadtrip (more on that later!) and this was in the mail:
Because I am an English teacher, I find this stuff funny. I am a dork.
Looks like it's pretty involved. Only a few courses, but you actually get a professor and classmates and real feedback. http://c21u.gatech.edu/coursera/cours…
I need some suggestions for a new paperback book. I've run through the books from my favorite authors and am kind of at a loss. I like hard Sci-Fi, space opera, biographies and history stuff. Any tips are appreciated.
What happened, is that i watched the film, without knowing the next thing about the whole story, and found it a good movie - not without shortfalls, but had me right on the edge throughout, and didn't lack in nice touches. So i decided to read the books.
I have it in my living room
