I even dig the color!
My right hand man Nathan did the service one today on my Mirage; Amsoil Signature 0w20, an extended life filter and basic inspection. So he decided to bring a quick welding project he did to show me. He welded for a living for some time and hadn’t messed with it in a bit.
I’m up to the front end of the E21 now... there’s not too much major patching left to do. I welded in the new lower rad support last night and grafted on the old rad saddles.
It went.... things.
You may remember my post a few weeks back about my rusty exhaust shearing in TWAIN on the highway. That was fun. Well, since that was the last OE exhaust for the Supercharged MR2's back when I bought it, and no aftermarket options exist for anything resembling a reasonable price, I had to go the DIY route.
Please critique my welds. They stink, obviously, but am I getting penetration or just globbing on wire? Do my hinges look nice, nice free door hinges.
That is neat.
When doing patches for body work, butt weld joints are hard to fit up and inherently weak because in order to blend everything smoothly you have to grind the weld and by the time you’ve got it smooth typically you’ve ground away most of the weld! For this reason an overlap joint is nicer to work with, it allows some…
Well Oppo, the welding on the 280Z has started rolling. My hinge mount repair came out pretty decent.
But dude, put a welding hood on. Just like an auto-darkening hood from Harbor Freight. (Do they have those in Canada?)
Summer is almost over, so I’m starting to get some motivation to get back to work on the E21 resto. Last weekend I basically just stared at it...deciding what to do first... maybe this weekend I’ll actually make some sparks...
Took off the Chrome Rocker Spears on my Fiat 124 spider to finish up welding some new panels in behind the doors.
I recently started school again. Up until this point my primary vehicle had been my trusted land cruiser. However, due to an ongoing LS swap on my truck, I was forced to find a plan B car to take with me to school. Luckily, I found a minty fresh Mercury Grand Marquis. However, this new car lacked anywhere to mount a…
I figure a good quality used flux-core welder, combined with good quality new gear and wire would give me a good introduction into learning to weld. Does anyone have experience with household voltage flux-core welding? Widebody FB for your time.
Last night I finally started gluing the tail panel onto the E21. It’s only tacked in place for now, but I checked the tail light fitment and it was pretty good, so things are moving in the right direction...
Or they are trying to kill me. Family got me a MIG welder for Christmas. I’ve wanted one for years. Now I need to learn how to use it.
Had a customer with an ‘01 Jetta tell me he was a certified welder, and had fixed his broken downpipes. Uh huh.
Getting things mocked up for floor, rocker, inner rocker and door post replacement. Need to build a floor brace and weld it in and then I think I can add all the good metal. I forgot how awesome clecos are! They hold really strong!
If you are observant you can tell there is some metal gap from the rocker inside edge to…
It’s been a while. Since getting cleared medically I’ve been working crazy hours at the prototype shop. I’ve been able to do some quick pieces, and a few more Benders, but this last weekend I had a couple days to pour into something a bit more involved. About half way through I was like. “Yes. Hell yes.”
