Earlier today, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed House Bill 5606 into law. Lots of people seem to be confused as to what this means for Tesla, so we're going to clear it up for you.

Bill 5606 does not ban Tesla from selling vehicles directly to consumers in Michigan because Tesla was already banned from selling direct. We released the above infographic back in May. Tesla was banned from selling in MI then and it is still banned today.

Don't believe us? Here it is, straight from the horse's mouth:

"This bill does not, as some have claimed, prevent auto manufacturers from selling automobiles directly to consumers at retail in Michigan — because this is already prohibited under Michigan law." - Gov. Rick Snyder

Here is what did change with Bill 5606:

1. Caps documentation fees at 5% or $200 for new-car dealers.

2. Allows manufacturers without their own dealerships in MI to sell through other franchise dealer networks.
