The suckiness that is 2020 continues unabated.
A few weeks back I tried to get a meal at my favorite Mexican restaurant over on Page, but was surprised to see the place boarded up. Not knowing what had happened I assumed that the boards were due to the unrest that was happening at the time as well as COVID-19. What I learned today was that they had a fire a few months back. Hopefully they’ll be reopening, although in these trying times I really don’t know if that’ll be possible.
Even though I’m unemployed I did contribute to the GoFundMe page that was setup by a local restaurateur. This place made me feel like I was back home in SoCal with more authentic food rather than the Tex-Mex variety common here in the Midwest. Anytime I go into a Mexican restaurant and see a lot of Mexicans eating there I know it must be authentic. I also look at the menu and see if it has all of the things that I won’t eat, no matter how good they may taste - cabeza, lengua, tripas, etc. If they serve those items I know it’s going to be good. The place isn’t fancy, and is tucked away in a little strip mall. That’s the kind of place I like - unassuming, with the emphasis put on the food, not the decor or location.
