A while back, I reported that the house next door to mine had sold to a couple who had a cool old Mercedes. Last night they stopped by for drinks, and I learned the history of the car. It’s a 1984 Mercedes 240D, which they purchased new. The husband was in the air force, so the car is a European-spec, left hand drive but with cloth seats and Euro bumpers. It sat for nearly 20 years before they had it restored, and as such it has just 86,000 original miles. The license plate, “SENATOR”, was the husband’s call sign back when he was a navigator. They retold many interesting anecdotes about the car, but the bottom line is that they have loved it since new and are very proud of it. They also said that when I’m back from school for a bit longer I we can take it for a spin, which should be fun.
