My wife found someone on FB looking for a car and she offered up my blurple friend that I really don’t drive much, but it will be so painful to say goodbye. 😔
My wife has been trying to get me to get rid of it for a while, but the insurance is cheap, it runs great, and I enjoy the sublime feel of cruising around in it. It’s not fast or sporty, but enough of each to make me happy. It also is far from perfect on the outside, yet it’s the most luxurious car I’ve ever owned, with super comfortable seats and ridiculous luxury features like rain-sensing wipers. It has that perfect blend of modern safety (airbags all over the place and big pillars for rollovers), while having plenty of greenhouse. Compared to a modern tombmobile, it feels so light and spacious. It’s probably the closest to a perfect car for me all around, but I already had my FoST on order when I bought it (stupid FoST took far longer than expected) and I still owe money on it (which I foolishly contributed to the house down payment funds), so this one gets the short end of the stick. Plus I drive maybe 2k miles a year now between my two cars and we are logging around 7-8k a year between both of us, so even owning one car dedicated to me is ridiculous overkill. The LS has a mere 32,700 miles (18 years old), while the FoST has a mind boggling 14,500 (3 years old, and 14,000 of these were in the first 2.5 years).
A pre goodbye, old friend. I’ll miss you in your generic luxury car triple clear coat metallic midnight blurple and light tan leather, dear cruiser.
If we had ended up with a 3-car garage, I would keep the car until it passed into classic car status, as it would be a ridiculously rare car by then. It’s at that bad point where it is too old to be desirable to those buying newer cars and too new to be desirable for being a classic car, so it is simply old at the bottom of the depreciation curve. It really is only suited to be a babied second car with a garage spot (it’s breaking my heart to keep it outside); I don’t even care if it’s reliable - I have other cars and wrenching doesn’t bother me.
