This is a Canopy Express truck. In the days before supermarkets were common, farmers would load their produce into the backs of these trucks, drive into town, and sell their produce from the back of the truck.
Although they were somewhat of a niche market vehicle, several companies made them since it wasn’t very difficult to adapt the design of a panel van to make a Canopy Express truck.
Once supermarkets started popping up in the early ‘50s, though, Canopy Express trucks started disappearing, and nowadays they’re quite rare. Which is too bad, since I think these old trucks are quite lovely and full of character.
