This choo choo train:
And this Ford Ranger
They have, or could have, this in common:
It’s a 3.2l Ford diesel five. Available as an option on the Ranger which more commonly gets, at least where I am, a 2.2 four which is to be replaced by a new 2.0.
The train however has four of them, a pair under each car. Why so many? Because in an unusual and seemingly contrarian move, what was previously an EV is being converted to diesel, a change which would probably induce paroxysms in believers in dieselgate. There isn’t space for one large engine so two smaller ones are stuck in instead.
