Part of the fun of looking for a house in parts of town that are mostly older houses is occasionally being horrified by ancient carpet, cabinets, and wallpaper. Today, I got to be horrified for a different reason. Yes, those are purple, hand-shaped chairs.

This house is half a duplex in a newer-construction part of the part of town I like here in Madison. The wacky decor is mixed with much of the original basic builder finishes, for example the kitchen.

I mean, they put in that wacky swoopy light fixture, but otherwise it’s the basic original formica countertops and cabinets. And yet...

But then you have the totally normal boring bathrooms.

And they finished the basement (complete with a leg lamp from A Christmas Story) but didn’t put in any flooring.

Oh, and the back yard? It’s an apartment complex.
