In response to the Nissan Xterra’s initial success, Ford attempted to capitalize on its distinctive look by sticking a tubular roof rack on the Escape. What I never knew until now is that it could accept a “No Boundaries” attachment which could slide out, down, and lock into the rear bumper to create a vertical mounting area (or be slid back up onto the roof for easier loading).

I hereby begrudgingly assign Respect Points(tm) to the first-gen Ford Escape and now must begin pricing out stainless drawer slides to make one for the Xterra. Even without the lift, big tire meat, and rear ladder it was always a pain to load the rack because I’m much shorter than it...
