Well, we got about a foot of snow here in Kansas last night so everything was pretty much closed, which meant I had the day off from work so I could work on the Miata. Since I couldn't exactly move the car (see above), I decided to tackle the dirty steering wheel. That implied going out there and removing it from the car. Simple enough. Once that was out, it was time to assess the damage..

That's not even the beginning, wait until you see the back:

It seems to be covered in some sort of make-up like film.

I've been wearing driving gloves ever since I bought the car, but I think it's about time I cleaned all that off. It's pretty dirty, and I don't like a dirty car.
Anyway, on to the cleaning part. I broke out the best tool in my toolbox, perfect for the job:

This thing is seriously amazing. I sprinkled some all over the wheel, but instead of scrubbing I decided to go full on and submerge it in a solution of it, but I didn't have a bucket big enough to fit it.. What to do, what to do?.. I got it! I'll just use the bath tub!

I sprinkled it some more and let it sit for about 5 minutes, then prepared the bubble bath for it.

Even while filling up with water the crud was already coming off, I only had to scrub a little bit to get the rest of it off. I'm amazed how dirty it was and how dirty the water got after so little scrubbing.

The end results were astonishing!! I really like how it turned out:

The front didn't look that great because the leather was already pretty worn, but the back, my gosh the back:

Good as new! There's not even a trace that the wheel was dirty at some point. One more last shot, a close up of the results:

Next up is installing it back into the car, but it's snowing yet again so I'll just do it tomorrow if we have another snow day.
More updates soon!!
