In trivia news this was the first model available as an automatic. It used (in small numbers) a CVT which Ford shared with Fiat. It didn’t go well for either maker.

It was also the first Fiesta to get the option of a five speed manual and a diesel (yes, you could get both, the diesels were five speed only).

Power steering had to wait a while longer.
