I travel a lot. Right now, I am in Reno, a city I know not at all. I took a couple of cab rides yesterday evening, the first time I took taxis in a long time after using rideshare exclusively for about 3 years. Here are my thoughts:

1. The taxi drivers were unfriendly, except one guy who chatted pleasantly with me at the end of the evening. Every Uber/Lyft driver I have used has been friendly, and willing to answer questions about the town.

2. The taxis were dirty. I mean, gross. Yuck. Never had that with an Uber/Lyft. I had one that smelled like weed once, but like, hey, whatever man. These taxis were nasty inside.

3. Twice the credit card machine in the cab failed. ‘Nuff said.

4. Taxis are much more expensive. Fuck that noise.

We could have a lot of discussion over the pros and cons of the independent contractor model, but when it comes to customer experience, taxis lose in a big way. Taxi industry, you done been out-competed.

Reno has fun local news. This old anchor makes bitter commentary on the stories and finishes with “I’m done.”
