These stunning photographs were taken by the French Armée de l’Air during observances of the 100th anniversary of the Lafayette Escadrille and the larger Lafayette Flying Corps. The Lafayette Escadrille was a unit of American pilots who served in the French Air Force during WWI.
In this photo, four Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptors fly over the memorial in Marnes-la-Coquette West of Paris. This memorial celebrates all 269 American pilots who fought for France as part of the Lafayette Flying Corps before and during WWI.
You can read about the Lafayette Escadrille in tomorrow’s Aviation History post.
