This "I mended something" story seems particularly ironic, since my Good Morning post today was about WD40. My '01 Golf is dying the death of a thousand stings. Just about everything in the car is going or has gone to shit, but it keeps running and we can't afford to replace it right now. Today, I got in after my wife had been driving and had to adjust the seat. It slid all the way back, and wouldn't lock. So I had to run my Very Important Errand with the seat fully slid back, careful not to hit the brakes too hard, lest the seat slam forward and impale me on the steering wheel. Dangerous, yes, but I had to run the errand. So when I got home, I googled the problem, thinking that surely I would have to remove the seat or sell the car. But what I have discovered in the Internet Age is that if you are having a problem with something, it's almost certain that somebody else has had the exact same problem. Sure enough, I found a thread on VW Vortex about a non-locking seat in a 2000 Jetta. It turns out that all that was happening was that the locking pin at the end of the cable was stuck. A liberal application of WD40 freed it up, and now it works beautifully. Now, if I could just use WD40 to fix all the other problems on the car....
