I’ve been wearing glasses for 40 years, and today I got my first set of contacts. I’m going to be playing trumpet onstage next month in a production of Aida, and since 3000-year-old Egyptian herald trumpet players didn’t wear glasses back in the day, I can’t wear glasses on stage. I can see how I might get used to wearing them, though. The peripheral vision is amazing, particularly when driving. But now I can’t see a damned thing up close, and I had to buy a cheap pair of reading glasses. I will likely go back to glasses; it’s just too easy to wake up and put them on, and the whole near/far vision thing is just too easy. But for now, this is definitely an interesting experiment. I might adopt them for photography and see how that goes.
