Went trail riding this weekend, only took three pictures.

Since the truck is new to me I got to play with the FX4 features a little, because I could, diff lock was nice to have, but I’m not sure I’ll ever actually need hill decent.

Took the XR600R out trail riding for the first time this weekend in the Black Hills of SD. I’ve been out on these trails before on either a Honda quad, or my old 200x three wheeler, but this was my first time on a bike. Going out on a large bike commonly referred to as “The Pig” was a little intimidating at first, but the XR was a very confident bike and I quickly became very comfortable with it. I managed to keep up with the quad riders all day and only put it down once on a grassy, muddy curve when the front wheel decided to fall into one rut, and the rear wheel decided to go into another. No biggie, an easy slow slide and I didn’t even kill the bike.


Despite the cold and misty weather the rest of the day was great, until the bike decided to die a mile from the truck. Not exactly sure what happened yet, but I suspect that it was a little too full of oil, and eventually fouled a plug. Got it back to the truck, and luckily it was the end of the day so we just loaded up and went back to camp.

The next day was 40 degrees, windy and rainy all day so we spent the day in the truck exploring some back road deep in the Hills along the Wyoming border. Saw a couple of heards of Elk, which is the first time I’ve seen them in the wild, which was really cool. Then stopped by the Homestake mine before heading back.


The weekend overall was kind of a bust, but still a lot of fun. I’ll get the bike running and I’ll be back for more soon.
