I was reading through and caught Luc.A's post about a Benz 350SDL's value. Myself having witnessed first hand a couple of times the "rod-bender" engine in action, I called it valueless. Regardless, Mercedes did replace a number of the engines up until fairly recently if you made a big enough stink, and those seemed to be reliable, and they are pretty damn fast for a 12V diesel. Then I got to thinking, late 90's W210 spring perch problems kind of killed that car for me, though I like everything else about them. I would never drive an e34 530i because of the nikasil issues, though once replaced, they are fine. What piece of bad engineering would put you off from a particular car?
