My wife’s Nissan Quest has been a mostly reliable, super-practical minivan. Yesterday, we went to the local auto show to look at what might replace it. There are basically three options left for minivan shoppers:
- Chrysler Pacifica
- Honda Odyssey
- Kia Sedona
Sure, Toyota still has the Sienna but it’s a really old design. And I believe you can still buy a Dodge Caravan, but it’s been superseded by the Pacifica. And much as I’d love to throw the Ford Transit Connect in the mix, who are we kidding?
To paraphrase a surprisingly brilliant comment by a Nissan rep at the auto show:
Everyone wants SUVs now. The only people who want minivans are people who’ve owned minivans and seen how practical they are.
