Interesting take on a question I haven't put much thought into from Wired. The gist of the piece is that since all the teams (and so many races/fans) are in Europe, it is difficult (but not impossible) for somebody who isn't there to rise through the ranks of the feeder series. Scott Speed makes a good analogy to a European kid racing stock cars in Europe and trying to get into NASCAR. Basically if you want a chance in F1, you better move there as a kid.
