Autonomous cars are coming, this is a fact. The vast majority of society doesn’t want to drive, & they don’t want to smell other people. So they want autonomous cars, sorry car people this is our future, we can fight against it all we want, it won’t help.

In the lead up to this future we need to change the way we do car licenses, why do Bristol and Justin I-don’t-give-a-crap-about-driving-I-just-want-to-Instagram need to get taught how to drive a vehicle to buy one? Well they don’t, at least not in my opinion which is the only one that matters. We can teach them how to stop the car in event of an emergency maybe and leave the training at that. I think we should embrace a bit of the United Kingdoms playbook and give license to drive cars based a bit on skill. As illustrated by the difference between B class and B auto class license.

I say we take this to its only logical conclusion, we make this shit all skilled based. In a few years when the robot overlords take over our roadways, we should be prepared.

As the class’s go up you retain the ability of the class(es) below your current level.

F’ class

Autonomous only class! You get taught how to start and stop the car. How to take over in event of emergency and safety put it on the side of the road. (No body style restrictions)

‘D’ class

Self drive, but only cars with collision avoidance technology with automatic transmission only. The car must be able to communicate with other cars both autonomous & not. (Sedan, coupe, hatchback & wagon body styles only!)

C’ class

Self drive, without any additional crash avoidance technology, automatic transmissions only, must have car fitted to communicate with other cars (if retroactively) to aid in avoiding collision with lower class license. (Can drive any body style of vehicle that is less then 37000 KG)

‘B’ class

Pretty much a license for now, can self drive anything, no restriction on transmission or tech in car

A’ class

Same as a ‘B’ class with additional training. As highways get more automated, the speed will increase for autonomous cars. eventually we will have unrestricted speed lanes for autonomous cars, people who attained this license will be able to self drive in these lanes. Any collision that happens because of a self driver in a “unrestricted speed” lane will immediately and permanently loss their ‘A’ license & the ability to obtain a class ‘A’ license as well as possible permanent demotion to another even lower rank (C-F) or suspended permanently.

So you’re welcome world. I just solved the next unforeseen crisis, drivers licenses. You may direct all future world problems to me. If for some reason you think you have an idea that’s even better than this let me know, or if somehow you think I got something wrong.
